"Whenever the temperature hits 90 degrees in Bluefield,

the streets are filled with people waiting in lines for free lemonade"

The idea of serving free lemonade whenever the temperature reaches 90 degrees was conceived by then Chamber Manager Eddie Steele in 1939. Due to the mild temperatures, the lemonade was never actually served until 1941. this campaign brought national attention to "Nature's Air-Conditioned City."
